ABOUT IMMANUEL LUTHERAN
Who Is Jesus?
In the story of creation God created both the whole universe as well as each individual person.
Like the world, people are corrupted by sin. But God gave His Son, Jesus who is the Christ (promised one), to save the whole
world and individual lives. Jesus accomplished this mission through His death on the cross and then by His ressurection, He
overcame death, thereby giving those who have faith in Him eternal life. Just as He has been put to death, daily through our
baptism our sinful self is put to death, and just as He has risen from the dead, through our baptism we live as He lives.
Jesus accomplishes all of this becuase He is truely God and truely Man neither one or the other, nor part of either but fully both.
We would love to tell you more. Please get in touch with us to find out more about the Savior.
Our Mission Statement
Immanuel Lutheran Church is a Christ-centered family,
in mission, sharing the good news of the love of God in Jesus Christ
through Word and Sacrament.
Our Affiliation
Our church is known as "Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran
Church." The word "Immanuel," means "God
with us." The word "Evangelical" is a word used by
many Lutheran churches to emphasize that we are "people of the
Gospel" and witness and mission minded. Though some churches
use the word "evangelical" with other criteria in mind, the
word as used by our church emphasizes that mission and ministry goes
beyond our walls to all the world.
Lutherans follow in the tradition of the Reformation
teachings of Martin Luther and other reformers. We do not follow the
man but rather the Reformation truths that we are saved by "grace
alone," by "faith alone," and that what we teach and
believe are based on "Scripture alone." Luther's Small Catechism
of Christian doctrine is used along with the Bible in teaching people
about their faith.
We are one of more than 6,000 congregations of the Lutheran
Church--Missouri Synod, sponsor of the "Lutheran Hour" on
radio and various Lutheran television ministries. The word "synod" means "walking
together" and it refers to a group of Lutheran churches who have
banded together for work. Our Synod was founded in 1847 and does mission
work and has partner churches in nearly 40 countries. The current
Synodical president is the Rev. Matthew Harrison (elected in July 2010)
who lives in St. Louis.
Pastors and teachers for our church body are trained
in a system of more than a dozen colleges throughout North America. Immanuel
congregation was founded in 1877 and our congregation numbers more
than 750 Baptized members, of which more than 600 are "confirmed" or
Communicant members.
The church supports mission projects through the Lutheran
Church—Missouri Synod and also has a “Mission of the Month” which focuses
on specific areas of work including Lutherans For Life (January), Lutheran
Hour (February), Freeport Hospice (March), Jail Ministry and Gideon
Bibles (April), Armed Forces (May), Foreign Missions (May), Crisis
Pregnancy (June), Deaf and Braille (July), the seminaries (August),
Local Food Pantries and Bethesda Home (September), Lutheran Church
Charities (October), LCMS World Relief (November), and Wheatridge and
LCFS Counseling (December).
